More than 250 layoffs announced in Butler County

More than 500 people in Butler County could be laid off by company closings between now and March.

The latest layoff notices are from Diversapack of Monroe and Xanterra Parks & Resorts Inc., which manages Hueston Woods Lodge and Conference Center in College Corner.

Diversapack, a manufacturing company, will close on or around March 5, and cut jobs for approximately 173 employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice received Jan. 6 by Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. As of Feb. 7, Xanterra will no longer manage Hueston Woods, terminating 93 jobs effective that date or during the 14 days after, according to its WARN letter to the state.  Read more...


Appeal of SunCoke permit hearing postponed
January 9, 2012

A state environmental board is postponing a hearing of a pending appeal against a permit issued to SunCoke Energy’s Middletown facilities.

The Environmental Review Appeals Commission of Columbus agreed to delay the Jan. 17 hearing to May 2 following a motion by SunCoke and AK Steel, which requested more time to prepare for the hearing, according to Jack Van Kley, an attorney representing the city of Monroe. 

Postponement of the appeal didn’t rankle Van Kley. “We informed the commission that we did not have any objection to it,” Van Kley said Monday. “All of the parties just needed more time to get ready.”
